48-year-old woman was seen in the office on 11/16/2010. She was in for a comprehensive evaluation with her optometrist who noticed a nevus in the left eye and suggested she see you for an evaluation. You saw drusen over the surface. Her vision is good in both eyes. VISUAL ACUITY: Vision OD is 20/16, OS is 20/20. IOP: OS 15. The left eye has a clear lens. EXTENDED OPHTHALMOSCOPY: OS: Vertical C/D ratio is 0.2. There is no posterior vitreous separation. There is a 6 x 6 mm flat nevus just superotemporal to the macula with drusen over the surface of it. Some of the drusen though are just equatorial drusen, but some of the drusen do look to be reactive from the nevus. There is no orange pigment. There is no fluid and there is no elevation nor is there a halo around the nevus. IMPRESSION: 1. BENIGN CHOROIDAL NEVUS – LEFT EYE DISCUSSION: I explained to the patient the nevus has all the characteristics typical for benign nevus. The risk of it making a transformation is about 1:22,000. I asked her to return one more time in six months so I can compare it to today’s photos.
