09-17-07. This pleasant 57-year-old woman has optic nerve drusen in both eyes. She also had laser for a retinal tear in the left eye a few years ago. VISUAL ACUITY: OU 20/20. IOP: OU 11. The lenses are clear. There are calcified drusen. The nerve fiber layer scan shows in the right eye an average nerve fiber layer thickness of 46, left eye 47. These numbers are slightly worse than the 48 and 49 of December of 2005, but possibly within the variation of the machine. IMPRESSION: 1. OPTIC NERVE DRUSEN – BOTH EYES. DISCUSSION: I explained to the patient that the nerve fiber layers might be a little thinner. I asked her to return for a check in a year-and-a-half, and I will check serial scans. If they do show further thinning, it may be worthwhile considering something for her
