65 Year Old woman was getting ready to go on a cruise and then she noticed a sudden spot appear in the vision in the left eye, which has been bothering the left eye. Her distance is good but her near is poor and she notices she cannot read out of the eye. She sees a 0.5-inch diameter circle of webbing and bubbles around it. VISUAL ACUITY: OU 20/30. IOP: OD 10, OS 14. SLIT LAMP EXAMINATION: The right eye is not dilated. The left eye has 3+ nuclear sclerosis. EXTENDED OPHTHALMOSCOPY: OS: Vertical C/D ratio is 0.3. There is partial posterior vitreous separation. I can see the posterior hyaloid face covering about 2mm in front of the macula and there is a hole in the center of it. IMPRESSION: 1. PARTIAL POSTERIOR VITREOUS SEPARATION – LEFT EYE WITH SYMPTOMATIC VITREOUS OPACITY DISCUSSION: I explained to the patient she has had a partial posterior vitreous separation and vitreous opacities are obstructing her vision. Those should relax over time. I asked her to return for a check in about six weeks, sooner should she notice a problem and see you periodically

Partial PVD - Posterior Hyaloid Gap Over Center of Macula661 viewsThis image illustraites how sometimes, when the posterior vitreous separates from the retina, a small area of vitreous is left behind. One theory holds that macular puckers can form from that left behind vitreous00000
