80 year old woman with asteroid hyalosis and macular degeneration. OPHTHALMIC EXAMINATION: Visual acuity with correction 20/30-3 OD and 20/30-2 OS. She reads with correction J3 OU. IOP: 16 OD and 15 OS. SLIT LAMP EXAMINATION: Biomicroscopy reveals a quiet anterior segment with stable IOLs and open posterior capsules OU. POSTERIOR SEGMENT EXAMINATION: Shows a clear view with vitreous separation in the right and probable vitreous separation in the left. The left vitreous separation is difficult to see because of a diminished view in that eye and 3+ asteroid hyalosis in the vitreous cavity of the left eye. The asteroid extends anteriorly towards the back service of the IOL. C/D ratio is 0.4 OU with some obscuration of nerve detail on the left. The macula appears to have intermediate and large drusen and pigment clumps in both eyes without any clear subretinal fluid, hemorrhage or exudate. The left macula detail is somewhat compromised by the asteroid hyalosis. EXTENDED OPHTHALMOSCOPY: The retinal periphery is flat and intact with no tears, breaks or detachments in either eye. There is asteroid hyalosis diffusely, mostly in the central vitreous of the left eye.
