6 year old patient was seen here for retinal evaluation on 2/28/08. You have been seeing him for accommodative esotropia and you saw a problem with his macula recently and suggested he come here for evaluation. There is some eye disease in the family. The father’s sister has jumpy eyes and wears glasses. Other than that, the father and the mother are both seeing fine. VISUAL ACUITY: Vision OD is 20/30, OS is 20/100. AMSLER GRID: Normal OU. SLIT LAMP EXAM: Normal with clear lenses. EXTENDED OPHTHALMOSCOPY: OD: Vertical C/D ratio is 0.2. There is a pigment irregularity of the macula. OS: Vertical C/D ratio is 0.2. There is a egg yolk-yellow spot under the fovea. The photos confirm clinical findings. OCT SCAN: OCT scan shows thickening under the retina in both eyes. IMPRESSION: 1. BEST DISEASE DISCUSSION: I explained to the patient’s mother that the spots in the eye are classic for Best disease. Unfortunately, we have no treatment for that at this time.
