Last additions - Central Areolar Choroidal Sclerosis (Dystrophy - Degeneration) 61-year-old man has central areolar choroidal sclerosis. His vision is a little worse.
VISUAL ACUITY: Vision without correction OD is 20/100, OS is 20/80. IOP: 15 OD, 14 OS. The right eye has a posterior chamber intraocular lens in good position. The left eye has 3+ nuclear sclerosis.
EXTENDED OPHTHALMOSCOPY:
OD: Vertical C/D ratio is 0.2. There is macular atrophy.
OS: Vertical C/D ratio is 0.2. There is macular atrophy.
OCT SCAN: The OCT scan shows retinal atrophy. There is no intraretinal or subretinal fluid.
IMPRESSION:
1. CENTRAL AREOLAR CHOROIDAL SCLEROSIS
DISCUSSION: I explained to the patient the maculae are stable. I asked him to return in a year, sooner should he notice a problem. He is taking fish oil and I suggested lutein might be a good idea. I do not know if zinc is a good idea for him because of his cognitive function problems.
